Olympus Italian Restaurant
BRANDMARK - The brandmark for the restaurant is a combination of a temple column, and a fork. It has a refined look due to the even outline of the stroke. To set it apart from other Italian restaurants, it uses a cool blue instead of a red or green color.
LOGOTYPE - The font used for the logotype is a traditional Roman typeface. The unevenness of it makes it look carved by primitive tools. The dots between the letters are inspired by how the names of temples were written on their pediments, the triangular section that sits atop the temple.
BOOK JACKET - The front cover of the book jacket features an inviting photograph of fresh, authentic Italian ingredients. The logo, title, and author name are written on marble slabs, a texture that is used all throughout the Olympus brand.
BOOK SPREAD- By using clipping paths of all of the ingredients, I was able to create a fun and dynamic recipe spread. The chaos of the photographic elements is balanced by the static text of the ingredients and directions.
MENU DESIGN - The front of the menu is designed to look like the entrance to a Roman temple. There are die cuts in the columns on either side of the menu, showing the food that is waiting inside. Opening the menu is like opening the doors to the temple. The inside of the menu uses a strict grid system. Each food item is devoted to a different god or goddess. For example, the seafood option is listed under the name plate for Neptune, god of the sea. The items on the side panels are free clipping paths, breaking the harsh grid and adding a bit of fun movement to the menu. Line is used to organize the different elements, and to help guide eyes.
ANNUAL REPORT - The report was laid out using a strict six column grid. The page numbers on the table of contents, and on every other page, has the number sitting on top of a column, keeping the Roman temple theme from the logo and menu.The element of line is used throughout the entire annual report to keep things organized and assign levels of hierarchy.
